What is a Microneedling Facial?
Microneedling is a widely popular and effective cosmetic procedure that involves creating very small wounds in the skin with tiny sterilized needles. The small wounds cause a natural wound response causing your body to make more collagen and elastin, which heal your skin and help you look younger.
These tiny needles are organized in groups of 12 or 36 pins and can be precisely adjusted to penetrate the skin at a range between 0.5-2.0mm depending on your skin concern. Before getting started, a topical anesthetic also known as numbing cream is applied to reduce the chances of any pain. This microneedling numbing cream is applied usually 40 minutes prior to performing the treatment to ensure it is fully absorbed into the skin.
During the procedure, our licensed esthetician makes small pricks under the skin with our professional microneedling device while also applying a topical serum, usually hyaluronic acid. These pricks create tiny wounds that breach the top layer of the skin, known as the stratum corneum, to trigger a natural wound response. The needle punctures are so small that you will not be able to notice them after the procedure but you will still see incredible results. With each treatment, your skin restores up to a year's worth of lost collagen while also improving the overall appearance of your skin.
A custom-made serum is applied after the microneedling treatment to help with healing as well as a complimentary calming face mask and red LED light therapy.
Microneedling Benefits
The Microneedling Facial produces amazing results just simply after one treatment and continues to boost the appearance of your complexion for months afterward. The benefits of microneedling are incredible but we have summed up the most important ones below:
1. REBUILDS COLLAGEN TO REDUCE FINE LINES AND WRINKLES
Aging is simply just a part of life, however, premature aging that presents itself as fine lines and wrinkles is something that can easily be avoided with microneedling. As you get older, your skin loses its elasticity, so it appears loose. Aging skin may also look dull and lack a youthful glow but with the help of microneedling you reverse the process of time.
Collagen and elastin are compounds in your skin that add structure and strength, over time these proteins in the skin become weak. The tiny injuries from a microneedling session boost collagen and elastin to fight lines and wrinkles by forcing the skin to rebuild itself.
As you trick the skin into being injured you also trick collagen and elastin the need to become stronger and make more proteins needed to rebuild the skin to become stronger and youthful. The buildup of collagen that occurs in response to the tiny wounds can improve the structure to fight sagging, plus, just 24 hours following a session, you experience a radiant glow.
2. TREATS ACNE SCARS AND ENLARGED PORES
Scarring of the skin occurs when collagen and elastin needed to rebuild the area are not fully supported or are too weak. Microneedling is super effective in addressing acne and other scars on your skin. Unfortunately, the only type of scars not possible to treat is keloid or raised scars.
During the skin-pricking process, your skin produces more collagen to heal the small wounds from the needles. The concept is that new collagen that's formed will help smooth out your skin's appearance helping to fill scars.
In addition to treating acne scars, microneedling is also very effective in reducing large pores on the face. Even though microneedling involves creating small holes in the skin it actually doesn't increase the size of the pores themselves. What is actually does is stimulate the collagen around the pores which makes the area around the pore become tighter and therefore reduces the size of the pore to appear almost invisible.
*Note that if you have active acne, microneedling is not the ideal procedure for you as you run into the risk of spreading the acne across other areas on the face. We recommend treating the acne with a regular facial first before choosing to get a microneedling facial to help get rid of acne scarring, discoloration, or enlarged pores.
3. REDUCES EFFECTS OF SUN DAMAGE
Microneedling is very effective in reducing the appearance of sun damage, superficially, hyperpigmentation and age spots. If you have spent a lot of time out in the sun you probably have some sunspots that have popped out. Microneedling has the ability to stimulate new collagen and skin cells that can rejuvenate your look and even out your skin tone.
6. IMPROVES THE ABSORPTION OF TOPICAL PRODUCTS
Because microneedling causes micro-punctures in the skin, post microneedling just happens to be the prime time to apply topical treatments, moisturizers, and other serums that boost your skin's health and appearance. The micro-holes receive creams, serums, and gels more easily and deliver them deeper into your dermis than when applied regularly, also known as micro-channeling.
7. FIGHTS STRETCH MARKS
Microneedling is not limited to just your face, it is also very effective to treat just about anywhere on your body. It can be effective in reducing the appearance of stretch marks that show up after periods of growth, such as during pregnancy.
